Chocolate Shortbread Squares Recipe:

These delicious chocolate shortbreads have 3 layers to them; shortbread, caramel, and chocolate. This recipe makes each of these components separately and makes the final dessert.

INGREDIENTS:

  • Butter 1 cup
  • Granulated sugar 2/3 cup
  • All-purpose flour 2 cups
  • Salt ½ tsp.
  • Sweetened condensed milk 1 cans
  • Butter 2 tbsp.
  • Milk chocolate 1 and 1/3 cups (chopped)

PROCEDURE:

Step 1: (shortbread crust)

First, preheat the oven to 350-degree F. Line a square pan with parchment paper.

Step 2:

Second, take a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar, and beat them using an electric mixer.

Step 3:

After that, add in the flour and salt and mix until the dough comes together.

Step 4:

Bake the dough for about 30-35nminutes. Set aside to cool completely.

Step 5: (Caramel Filling)

Meanwhile, take a saucepan, add condensed milk and butter together. Bring both ingredients to simmer over medium-low heat while whisking constantly.

Step 6:

Continue to simmer over low heat until the mixture thickens and turns into a light amber color. Keep whisking all the time so the caramel won’t stick to the bottom of the pot and burn.

Step 7:

After that, pour the thicken golden caramel over the cooled shortbread and spread evenly.

Step 8: (chocolate layer)

In conclusion, melt the chocolate in the microwave and pour it over the caramel. Smooth until leveled.

Step 9:

After that, allow setting at room temperature for the chocolate to harden and cut into squares.
